Great Plains Art Museum to Host "Modern Traditions" Exhibit

Last summer, KANEKO partnered with the Omaha Public Schools (OPS) Native American Indian Education Department, Therman Statom Studios, and the Hot Shops Art Center to offer an extended, multidisciplinary, hands-on workshop that introduced OPS Native American elementary and secondary school students to art as a viable area of study and work. Great Plains Art Museum in conjunction with Lincoln Public Schools Visual Arts Mentorship exhibition will show the student's artwork in an exhibit beginning on April 6th, 5-7 p.m. The exhibit will close April 22nd, 2012.

Contemporary Indigeneity: The New Art of the Great Plains

The Great Plains Art Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska announces a juried exhibition focusing on Native American culture in the Great Plains region.  Eligible works should express some element of North American Indigenous culture and have a contemporary or historical significance and placement within the Great Plains of North America.  Works submitted must also reflect the mission of the Great Plains Art Museum.

Over $5,000 in awards, including potential purchase acquisition by the Great Plains Art Museum, $15 suggested donation for 1-5 entries.

Deadline February 22, 2012.  Exhibition dates June 1 - July 29, 2012.
